Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils from aromatic plants to heal and soothe the body and mind. Far from being a modern discovery, the medicinal use of aromatic plants is rooted in history. Aromatherapy as it is known today can be traced back to the turn of the 20th century and the works of R H Gattefosse in France. His research into essential oils means he is widely regarded as the “father of aromatherapy.”
Holistic Aromatherapy Since the 1980s aromatherapists in the UK have adopted treatment methods involving blending and massaging essential oils into the body. A “whole person” approach is taken to healing. The plant’s scent working on the emotions, its chemistry on the body and the therapeutic touch of the massage therapist are all part of the healing process.

About the therapist:
For the past 18 years Annette has worked in the health food and natural remedies business. During this time she has become ever more aware of the positive effects of a healthy lifestyle on our well-being and of the value of complementary therapies to maintain or help re-establish good health.
She was particularly drawn to aromatherapy, feeling that the natural world has so much to offer in the way of joy and healing. The senses of smell and touch are so often neglected. Aroma can lift our mood and transport us to a happier place and time.
When her children left home and went to university she decided it was her turn to study!
She acquired a diploma at the Nicole Perez School of Holistic Aromatherapy and in 2010 became a registered full member of the International Federation of Aromatherapists.
Since qualifying she has been providing aromatherapy treatments for staff at an East London primary school as part of their staff well-being programme. The treatments are proving increasingly popular as more people discover the powerful benefits of aromatherapy.
Annette continually expands her skills and knowledge through professional development, most recently training in pregnancy massage.
